Frequenly Asked Questions

##Accessories

  • Q: Do your fans come with a stand?

Stands must be purchased separately. The PLASTEC 50 will include its own stand.

  • Q: What are other accessories that I might require?

Accessories required depends on the application you wish to use your blower for. For instance:
- If the blower is on a roof, you should use a weather hood to product the motor.
- If you have a blower with a single-phase motor, an adjustable damper may be required.
- If you have a blower with a three-phase motor, you can use a damper or a VFD for flow adjustments.

##Applications and Compatibility

  • Q: What chemicals is Polypropylene compatible with or resistant to?

Polypropylene is chemically resistant to most chemicals. For the full compatibility chart, see our Chemical Index

  • Q: What are your applications? What industries do you supply to?

We supply many industries: water treatment, fume hood, chlorine and chemical, food processing and production, natatoriums and pool areas, cannabis production, battery storage, radon mitigation, oil and gas production, parking and garages, hospital and surgical centers, to name a few. Anywhere chemical or corrosive gases need to be exhausted.

  • Q: What are the temperature limitations or range?

The maximum exhaust temperature for our blowers is 140 F continuous. Our blowers are capable of temperatures up to 190 F only in 15 minute intervals.

The minimum environment operation are 5 F continuous and -39F in intervals.

  • Q: Is your product susceptible to UV?

Our Polypropylene resin includes HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer) additive. Our fans last over 10 years with only some color fading.

  • Q: How much noise do your blowers make?

Our blowers typically make less than 85 dB of noise, and averages between 75 dB and 85 dB. Please check specification sheets or the blower's webpage for the exact sound level.

  • Q: Do you use stainless steel hardware?

All of the hardware used with our blowers is stainless steel.

  • Q: What are the differences between each series of blower? What are each series used for?

The PLASTEC Series is our general exhaust fan and can be used in almost every possible application - The STORM Series is for low flow, and high pressure applications. The ideal series for complex ducting. - The JET Series is our in-line roof mounted fan, perfect for any roof mount application.

##Fan Selection

  • Q: Can you help with fan selection?

Yes, Contact us. We can help with selections for most applications. Speak to our engineers or sale representatives for help.

  • Q: How do I select a fan?
  • You can Contact us for assistance, we love helping our customers select the fan that meets their needs. When selecting a fan, the basic requirements are:
    • Air flow
    • Static Pressure
    • Voltage
    • Power Phase

If you do not know airflow, please provide the volume to be exhausted and how many air changes are required per hour.
If you do not know static pressure, please provide a drawing of the ducting that will be used with the blower. Please include duct diameter, duct length, and duct material.
If you know your requirements, you can also use our fan selection software ZEPHYR

The fan model you want to replace
Airflow (CFM) and static pressure requirements
Any relevant application details (e.g., methane mitigation, chemical exposure)
One of our engineers will get back to you with the most suitable option.

##Technical

  • Q: How can I tell if I need to run a Clockwise (CW) or a Counterclockwise (CCW) configuration?

The direction of rotation is determined from the drive or motor side of the fan. All blowers ship CCW 360 or in the up-blast position unless specified otherwise. On all single inlet fans, the drive or motor side of the fan is always considered the opposite of the fan inlet.

  • Q: Can I use a VFD or Speed Controller on a single-phase motor?

It is not recommended to use a speed controller with a single-phase motor as it can cause damage to the motor due to increased amperage draw. It is not possible to use a VFD for a single-phase motor.

  • Q: What are the additional wires/terminals on the explosion proof motors for?

The additional wires or terminals are for the built-in thermal protection system in these motors. To use these, it will require the use of an additional thermal overload relay system.

  • Q: Why is my blower producing less airflow than specified or that is required?

If the blower is experiencing low air flow or low air output, it could stem from a few key issues. These issues are generally characterized by the air flow being 15-25% of the normal. Some of these issues include the following:
- Motor rotating in the incorrect direction.
- Incorrect Impeller for housing orientation.
- Excessive static pressure/pressure loss.
- System configuration different than when specified.
Check the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual available on our website or included with every blower for more details. If you have any questions, please contact our technical support team and we will be happy to assist you.

##Warranty and Returns

  • Q: Is there a warranty? If so, what is it?
