PLASTEC Series Blowers

Series Overview

The PLASTEC Series of fans and blowers are direct drive centrifugal fans designed specifically for exhausting fumes from highly corrosive environments. These blowers are constructed entirely from polypropylene with thick walls. A key feature is the absence of metal in the airstream, which provides maximum protection against acids and corrosion. Polypropylene is noted as having the best resistance against acids and corrosion. The units also include Hindered-Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) for increased UV resistance.

The PLASTEC series is ideally suited for use in various industries and settings where corrosive substances or fumes are present, including:

  • Laboratories
  • Chemical plants
  • Hospitals
  • Universities & research institutes
  • Chemical processing and storage
  • Water treatment & sewage / Wastewater treatment
  • Pharmaceutical and medical facilities
  • Oil, petroleum & gas industry
  • Hemp production
  • Coastal regions
  • Maritime transport & marine applications
  • Agricultural & food processing
  • Electric vehicle manufacturing & storage

Certain models within the PLASTEC series are also available in an Explosion Resistant version, suitable for explosive atmospheres.

These models cover 6 sizes [prior conversation].

Detailed data points are available for each model in their respective specification sheets. Key information generally includes:

  • Airflow (CFM): Max and Min Air Flow are specified for each model. For example, the Plastec 50 has models with Max Flow up to 10800 CFM and Min Flow of 800 CFM. Performance curves showing airflow vs. static pressure are available for each model.

    • Plastec 50: Inlet ØA(OD) 19.65 in (500 mm), Outlet ØF(OD) 23.58 in (600 mm)
  • Motor specs: Data includes Phase (Single or Three Phase), Frequency (Hz), Power (Hp), RPM, Poles, Voltage (V), Amperage (A - FLA), and Thermal Overload Protection. For example, the Plastec 15 is available with 0.33 Hp or 0.5 Hp single-phase motors or 0.33 Hp three-phase motors. The Plastec 50 is available with 5.5 Hp or 10 Hp three-phase motors, and the 10 Hp model comes with a VFD.
  • Dimensions: Detailed dimensional data (in/mm) including C, D, G, H, I, J, and K (Max Height) are provided in specification sheets for each model.
  • Weight: Weight in pounds (lbs or lb) is listed as a data point for each model. Specific weights are provided for Plastec 50 models (e.g., 256.7 lb, 255.2 lb).
  • Mounting options: While not explicitly listed as options, the Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual illustrates a Roof Unit Assembly, suggesting roof mounting is a designed configuration, at least for some models like the Plastec 35.

Performance and Dimensions

The PLASTEC series offers a range of performance capabilities. The overall performance range is from 0.25"-12" Static Pressure (extending the previously noted 8" based on Plastec 50 data) and from 30-10800 CFM.

Performance certified is for installation type D – Ducted inlet, Ducted outlet. Performance ratings do not include the effects of appurtenances (accessories). Maximum fan input power is catalogued over the range.

Installation and Wiring

Installation, operation, and maintenance instructions are provided in a dedicated manual. It is essential to fully read and understand this manual before installing, using, or operating the equipment. Detailed instructions may be presented separately.

Installation, adjustment, and servicing should only be performed by qualified electrical maintenance personnel familiar with the equipment and associated hazards. Users and installers should also read "RECOMMENDED SAFETY PRACTICES FOR AIR MOVING DEVICES" published by AMCA. General precautions for electrical wiring are outlined, including warnings about potential property damage or serious injury if not followed by qualified personnel. Standard electrical data points include Phase, Frequency, Power, RPM, Voltage, Amperage, and Thermal Overload Protection.

The manual includes assembly illustrations, such as for a Roof Unit 35 Kit Assembly, showing steps like removing inlet screws, placing a roof cap, attaching brackets, attaching a motor weather cover, and installing guards.

Certifications and Compliance

The PLASTEC series follows manufacturing standards including ISO 9001-2008 (from prior conversation). Test performance procedures are conducted for PLASTEC and STORM Series according to AMCA standards.

Explosion Resistant versions of the Plastec 15, Plastec 20, Plastec 25, Plastec 30, and Plastec 35 models are available [prior conversation]. These versions are compliant with international standards:

PLASTEC VENTILATION PRODUCTS with Explosion Resistant certification are certified only for ZONE II GAZ. Additives are used in the polypropylene of these versions to reduce the risk of creating an electrical charge [prior conversation]. The sources also display logos for NEC, ATEX, and IEC.

Discharge Configurations

The PLASTEC blowers offer flexible discharge orientations. The mechanical data sheets for each model illustrate various available discharge angles and clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW) rotation options. Orientations shown include angles around the full 360 degrees, typically in 45 or 90-degree increments (e.g., 360, 45, 90, 135, 180, 225, 270, 315 degrees).
